Mike Miller, Ph.D.

30 years of service

Mike Miller was recognized recently for 30 years of service to WVU. Mike was recruited to WVU in 1977 by Eugene Sander. He maintained an active laboratory, funded by extramural support for many years and studied various aspects of carcinogenesis, including investigating the use of several fish species as supplemental/alternative species for carcinogenicity studies. About 6 years ago he made the decision to change research directions and began a collaboration with Nyles Charon (Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology) on Lyme disease, which is caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi. Most of their efforts have addressed the mechanism(s) of B. burgdorferi chemotaxis and motility. Several years ago, Mike received funding from the American Heart Association to study the interactions of B. burgdorferi with vascular system, in collaboration with Nyles and Ping He (Physiology). In addition to his research interests, Mike participates in teaching Biochemistry graduate students, pharmacy students, dental students and undergraduate students. Congratulations Mike...!!
