Free lung cancer conference slated for Nov. 10
The WVU Cancer Institute will present a free continuing education conference Friday, Nov. 10, at the Morgantown Marriot, Waterfront Place. Titled "Screening to Survivorship: A New Look at Lung Cancer," the event will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This conference is designed for all healthcare team members and others who have an interest in optimal care for people undergoing the journey of lung cancer. Attendees will receive information about the scope of lung cancer in West Virginia and efforts to address needs of people diagnosed with this disease locally and throughout the world.
Participants will also learn about current medical and surgical treatments for early‐stage lung disease, as well as the potential physical and psychological impacts of treatment. There will be information about screening and risk factor reduction, particularly related to tobacco use.
Speakers will describe two different models of care for lung cancer survivors, incorporating skilled service provision by a variety of health professionals.
Finally, attendees will have a chance to develop a survivorship care plan that addresses the needs of a representative patient case through interactive problem‐solving and discussion.
At the end of the conference, attendees will have a greater appreciation for the unique needs of patients with lung cancer across the continuum of care and how to begin to address these needs within their own work settings and disciplines.
