Daniel Sloyer, MD joins the Department of Anesthesiology. He completed a cardiac fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic and was an anesthesiology resident here at WVU.

Amanda Newhouse, MSW, LICSW joins the faculty in the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry. She completed a Masters in social work at WVU and has been a clinical therapist at WVU for three and a half years.
Aliana Abascal, MD joins the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry faculty having completed forensic psychiatry fellowship at WVU and psychiatry residency at Emory.

Peter Griffin, MD joins the Department of Emergency Medicine. He completed emergency medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic.
Andrew Vucelik, MD joins the Department of Emergency Medicine faculty at United Hospital Center. He completed emergency medicine residency at WVU.
Julia Murray, DO joins the Department of Emergency Medicine’s Urgent Care service at the Fairmont Gateway Clinic. She completed family medicine residency at United Hospital Center.
Thomas Farrah, MD joins the Department of Emergency Medicine at Camden Clark Medical Center. He completed emergency medicine residency at WVU.

Barbara Cubic, PhD joins the Department of Family Medicine’s clinical psychology service. She was previously a faculty member in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Family and Community Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
HEART AND VASCULAR INSTITUTE
Steven Turley, MD joins the critical care service with the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute. He was formerly an intensivist at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV and also practiced at the University of Maryland. He completed nephrology fellowship at Louisiana State University and critical care fellowship at East Carolina University.
Irfan Zeb, MD joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute as a non-invasive cardiologist. He completed cardiology fellowship at Mount Sinai/St. Luke’s Hospital in New York and cardiovascular CT imaging fellowship at UCLA.
Adam Hansen, MD joins the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at our United Hospital Center location. He completed cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Arizona and general surgery residency at Mayo Clinic-Scottsdale and the University of Arizona.

Garrett Cooper, MD, PhD joins the Department of Medicine’s hospitalist service. He is in the Department’s infectious diseases fellowship and completed internal medicine residency at WVU.
David Shi, MD joins the hospitalist service in the Department of Medicine. He was previously a hospitalist at Westmoreland Hospital and Latrobe Hospital.
Rachel Leonard, MD joins the Department of Medicine faculty in the section of pulmonary/critical care medicine. She completed pulmonary/critical care fellowship and internal medicine residency at WVU.

Zubeda Sheikh, MD joins the Department of Neurology. She completed a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy at Yale and neurology residency at Rutgers.
OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY
Kristina Smouse, CNM, CRNP, MSN joins the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s midwife service. She was formerly a nurse practitioner in women’s health at Excela Health in Greensburg, Pa. She also was a nurse at our trauma center at WVU.
OPHTHALMOLOGY
Eva DeVience, MD joins the faculty in the Department of Ophthalmology after completing a glaucoma fellowship and ophthalmology residency at WVU.
OTOLARYNGOLOGY
Johnathan Castano, MD returns to WVU as a faculty member in the Department of Otolaryngology. He completed a pediatric ENT fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and ENT residency here at WVU.
PATHOLOGY
Rudolph Castellani, MD joins the Department of Pathology as Vice Chair of Research and Chief of Neuropathology. His previous appointments were at Western Michigan University and the University of Maryland. He completed neuropathology fellowship at Case Western Reserve.
PEDIATRICS
Jordan Beckett, DO joins the Department of Pediatrics as a pediatric hospitalist at Camden Clark Medical Center. She completed pediatrics residency at Nationwide Children’s in Columbus and earned her DO at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Cortney Ballengee Menchini, MD, DO joins the Department of Pediatrics. She completed pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition fellowship at Emory University and pediatrics residency at the University of Virginia. She earned her MD and undergraduate degrees at WVU.
Brian Peppers, MD joins the Department of Pediatrics as an allergy and immunology specialist. He completed pediatric and adult allergy and immunology fellowship at Cleveland Medical Center and pediatrics residency at University Hospitals, Cleveland.
Salwa Gendi, MD joins the Department of Pediatrics. She was formerly a pediatric cardiologist at the University of Mississippi. She completed pediatric cardiology fellowship at Rush University and medicine/pediatrics residency at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Mich.
David Thomas, MD joins the Department of Pediatrics as the Chief of pediatric pulmonary disease. He practiced in Baton Rouge prior to joining WVU Medicine.
Amy Peasley-Guido, MD joins the Department of Pediatrics. She completed pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition fellowship at Nationwide Children’s in Columbus. She earned her MD at WVU.
Nadia Falah, MD joins the Department of Pediatrics. She was formerly a clinical geneticist at Nemours Children’s in Orlando, Fla.
Elizabeth McQuade, MD joins the Department of Pediatrics. She completed child neurology and neurodevelopmental disabilities residency at Baylor University and pediatrics residency at Marshall University.
Shipra Gupta, MD joins the Department of Pediatrics. She was most recently an assistant professor of infectious diseases at Mayo Clinic. She completed pediatric infectious diseases fellowship and pediatrics residency at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.
RADIOLOGY
Nassir Rostambeigi, MD joins the Department of Radiology. He is an interventional radiologist who completed vascular and interventional radiology fellowship at the University of Minnesota.
SURGERY
Carl Schmidt, MD joins the Department of Surgery as Professor and Section Chief of Surgical Oncology. He will also serve as Surgeon-In-Chief for the Cancer program and Chief Quality Officer for the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center. He was a surgeon and surgical oncology fellowship director at the Ohio State University as well as the gastrointestinal service line director.
