New PI bonus guidelines announced

Effective July 1, eligibility requirements for the annual WVU Medicine-WVU Hospitals’ Performance Improvement (PI) bonus will include individual performance evaluations, according to Human Resources officials.

Human Resources has also outlined new guidelines for pro-rated payments based on a minimum number of work hours and established a cut-off eligibility date of June 30 for new employees.

“We think it’s important to recognize individual performance, while at the same time rewarding employees for achievements associated with the organization’s PI Plan,” said Leeann Cerimele, chief human resources officer. “WVU Medicine values the contributions of its employees, and we want to make sure that is reflected in this revised bonus plan.”

The bonus evaluation period is Jan. 1- Dec. 31 each year. WVU Medicine-WVU Hospitals must meet budget and financial objectives for the employee bonus to be applicable.

To be eligible for the bonus, an employee must receive a satisfactory performance evaluation – or greater – for the most recent performance review period. Employees who receive an unsatisfactory evaluation with an overall “needs improvement” rating are not eligible. Employees who receive a level 2 or higher level of corrective action July 1 or after are also not eligible.

The PI Plan goals are monitored on a monthly basis by the Quality Department and the bonus amount is determined based on the hospital’s results. Quality will compile the annual PI plan results, and Human Resources will communicate the bonus payment amount and payment date in the first quarter of each year.

If the organization’s goals for 2017 are met, the bonus payment is expected on or about Feb. 16, 2018, but that date is subject to change. Award payments will be distributed in a lump sum and are subject to all applicable taxes and withholdings.
