Patrick Thomas, poster winner at undergraduate research symposium

Patrick Thomas, an undergraduate cancer researcher in Dr. Laura Gibson's lab, was the winner in the Health Sciences category of the 2017 Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium (SURE). The title of Patrick's poster was Inhibition of mitochondrial respiration in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia within the bone marrow microenvironment. His project looked at how the metabolism of acute lymphoblastic leukemia changes when it interacts with the bone marrow microenvironment. He also evaluated a drug that could be effective in treating leukemia. 

Patrick was a summer undergraduate research fellow at the WVU Cancer Institute in 2015 and 2016.  He also presented his research at the 2016 and 2017 Undergraduate Research Day at the Capital in Charleston, WV.
