School of Medicine names new communications and marketing director

Cassie Thomas was recently named the School of Medicine’s communications and marketing director. She fills the position previously held by Tara Scatterday who is now serving as the executive director for health sciences communications and institutional relations.

The position is a homecoming of sorts for Thomas, who began her career as a research writer with WVU Medicine. She also spent eight years with the WVU Extension Service as a communications and marketing manager, and later as the interim director of communications.

Thomas’ background in statewide, institutional branding and marketing efforts led her to University Relations, where she served as the director of brand and marketing before joining the School of Medicine in June.

She is a WVU alumna with undergraduate and master’s degrees in journalism from the Reed College of Media.
