WVU Medicine expands Heart and Vascular Institute

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – WVU Medicine officials from Morgantown traveled to the Eastern Panhandle on Monday to announce the expansion of cardiovascular services at Berkeley Medical Center and Jefferson Medical Center.

The official announcement was made by Vinay Badhwar, M.D., executive chair of the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, during a ceremony held at the WVU Health Sciences Center Eastern Division on the Berkeley Medical Center campus.  

“One of our top priorities is to improve access to cardiac care in the Eastern Panhandle,” Dr. Badhwar said. “The first step in our process was to recruit additional cardiologists to the area.”

The Heart and Vascular Institute – Martinsburg has a team of seven board-certified cardiologists with offices in Martinsburg as well as Winchester and Front Royal, Virginia. Led by Medical Director Ajay Virmani, M.D., the group includes Runa Bhattacharya, M.D., David Plitt, M.D., S. Sree Hari Kesan, M.D., Manish Jhawar, M.D., Farrukh Jalisi, M.D., and Don Mishra, M.D.

Current service offerings include interventional cardiology, abdominal ultrasound, stress testing, ankle-brachial index/pulse volume recording (ABI/PVR), upper and lower extremity arterial duplex, aortic arch vessel duplex, rhythm management, cardiac echocardiogram, endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), and valvular assessment.
