HSC INSTITUTE FOR COMMUNITY AND RURAL HEALTH: Serving the healthcare needs of people who live throughout the state while providing a comprehensive education to students continues to be a major priority for West Virginia University Health Sciences. NOTICES:
SPRING REGISTRATION BEGINS TODAY – NOVEMBER 1ST:  MD course corrections have now been completed by the Registrar’s Office.  Class emails will be sent tomorrow with instructions. 
STUDENT WELLNESS EVENT SUNDAY!!!!!  This Sunday, November 6th from 2-6pm there will be a Wellness Event hosted by the MS4s at the Dorsey's Knob Lodge.  All medical school classes are invited to attend.  Food and activities will be provided.  Check your email for more details or for further information please feel free to get in touch with Chauncey Spears at chaunceyspears@gmail.com.  Looking forward to seeing you all there! ~ on behalf of the MS4 Social Committee 
FLU SHOT HEALTH REQUIREMENT:  As of today, only 73 of you have met the requirement to submit proof of flu vaccination.  While this is not due until the close of business December 15, you are encouraged to not wait until the last minute as you may find it difficult then to find any available.  Take advantage of the opportunities listed here! 
FLU SHOTS FOR MEDICAL STUDENTS: for your convenience…Come get your flu shots on November 7th from 5:00- 6:30pm in John E Jones Conference Center. Cost is $15 cash, check or charged to your Mountaineer account. Signup requested - Please email Dr. Cather with your name (put "SHOTS" in the subject line) if you are possible interested so we can get an idea of the number of shots to prepare. Medical Student walk-ins will certainly be welcome on that day even if you didn't submit your name as long as the vaccine does not run out.  acather@hsc.wvu.edu

ALL STUDENTS INVITED – RSVP BY NOVEMBER 9TH – GLOBAL HEALTH WEEK: Students for Global Health, Physicians for Human Rights, and Circa Terra would like to invite all students to attend the First West Virginia University Global Health Week during November 14-18.  The attached flyer includes the speakers for each noon lecture that include topics of HIV in Kenya, Elizabeth Suda's Peace Bomb project, Global Homeless Street Rounds (co-sponsored with Project MUSHROOM and FMIG), Inter-discipline HSC-wide Forum and Reception, and Team Rubicon (military and emergency medicine based disaster relief organization).  Lunch will be provided each day for those that RSVP by November 9, 2011 to jvisyak@hsc.wvu.edu.   We hope that you can join us for this unique experience!!!
ALL STUDENTS INVITED TO AN HSC TOWN HALL MEETING  with Chancellor Colenda November 15th, 2011 at noon in the Okey Patteson auditorium with MDTV connectivity to the Eastern and Charleston Divisions.  The Chancellor will be giving an update to the School of Medicine on the Health Sciences Center with a Q & A to follow. 
LIBRARY ACCESS TO BOARD PREP MATERIAL -  “FIRST AID”:  The Health Sciences Library has purchased the complete "First Aid Collection," a popular group of peer-to-peer study guides for various medical boards and clerkships. The collection is available electronically for unlimited users through the Libraries' Databases List at http://www.libraries.wvu.edu/databases. It can be found under "First Aid Collection" either in the Medicine or Health Sciences subject categories, or under "F" in Databases by Title. FIRST DEBT FACT CARD FROM AAMC:  The updated 2011 "Medical Student Education: Costs, Debt, and Loan Repayment Facts" card is now available.  FIRST (Financial Information, Resources, Services, and Tools) for Medical Education is designed to help members of the academic medicine community navigate the complexities of student debt. Also known as the "Debt Fact Card," this card contains student loan indebtedness figures for the Class of 2011, sample repayment data, and information on tuition/fees and housestaff stipends.
MyMountaineerCard offers WVU students new way to manage ID.  West Virginia University students now have a new opportunity to manage their ID card online through a new service called MyMountaineerCard. The website, found at http://mymountaineercard.wvu.edu/, is a one-stop shop to manage their ID card with options to add Mountie Bounty electronically, check spending history, report a lost/stolen card, etc.   Log on with MyID username and password.

MS MILERS RUNNING CLUB  is sponsoring a shoe drive for the Soles4Souls organization beginning tomorrow, November 2nd, through the end of the month. Donate pairs of gently used shoes and receive a half hour of community service per pair, with a maximum of two hours available to each student. Please no flip-flops or shoes damaged beyond repair. Soles4Souls is a non-profit organization that donates shoes to those in need, such as disaster relief victims, women’s shelters, and rural Appalachians. There will be a drop-off box located in the hallway between the dental clinic and the learning center atrium.  Please tie together your pair of shoe before placing them in the box. Also, in order to receive service hours, please place a slip of paper with your name on it inside of your shoes. PAIG:  The Pediatric and Adolescent Interest Group is looking for volunteers to participate in the Reach Out and Read Program. This would involve scheduling times to read to kids at the pediatric clinic in the POC. Please contact me at sthoma24@mix.wvu.edu if you are interested.

Mask Fittings- Any student who has not completed their mask fitting, is requested to come to the Eastern Division on Thu. 3rd  at 4:00pm.  A new technique is being used, and will take a shorter time.

Osler Students please note- In preparation for your switch to the Cushing Module in January, you will need to complete fingerprinting for your VA identification and clearances. 
Please note this schedule and report as assigned to the VA Med Center PIV Office.  Thu. Dec. 8th- 8:00am- Bozek, Copple, Hansen, Jennings   Wed. Dec. 14-8:00am- Koo, Manwaring, Masumova, Taylor.  
Your paperwork was completed in July. 
All Osler students will be participating in a trial testing for the NBME Family Medicine on line exam.  This exam will not count towards your grade.  It will be administered on Fri, Nov. 18th from 8:30am to 12noon in the large classroom.   In order to prepare for this on-line exam- All computers have to be cleared to make sure that it will accept the test.   Please bring your computers this Friday, Nov. 4
To education so our IT staff can certify them pre-test.   If you do not have a computer, arrangements will be made for you to use a loaner.
