Surgery
The WVU General Surgery Residency Program provides experience in the preoperative, operative and postoperative care of patients in all areas of general surgery. Residents acquire experience in cardiovascular surgery for ischemic, valvular and congenital heart disease and pacemaker implantation; care of trauma and critically ill surgical patients; peripheral vascular surgery involving vessels of the head, neck, extremities and abdominal aorta; head and neck, endocrine and gastrointestinal surgery. Residents also participate in all aspects of surgical oncology and general pediatric surgery. Faculty surgeons perform and teach laparoendoscopic surgery, surgical endoscopy, laser surgery, thoracic surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery. The General Surgery Residency Program is approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Department conferences utilize the traditional Grand Rounds format, morbidity and mortality reviews and research presentations. Residents present research topics and results of their work before faculty, colleagues and students at competitions and forums. Residents receive additional training at the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Hospital in Clarksburg, about 45 miles south of Morgantown. Residents gain experience in liver/kidney transplantation at the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

Urology
Thank you for your interest in the Urology Residency Training Program at West Virginia University. Our program serves the entire State of West Virginia. This dynamic program is fully accredited by the ACGME and accepts one resident per year for training. Residents are exposed to all aspects of Adult and Pediatric Urology. Chief residents graduate with more than 1200 cases performed. Pass rates on the American Board of Urology Examinations is 93%. The Division of Urology offers three elective rotations for medical students. We urge those students with a sincere interest in training with us to consider taking an elective rotation here. In the following paragraphs, our residency application process is described.
