Inpatient Family Medicine for Psychiatric Hospital

West Virginia University School of Medicine seeks a full time Family Medicine physician to manage primary medical care and supervise four physician assistants at a 150 bed state psychiatric hospital in Weston, West Virginia.

This is a faculty position with the WVU School of Medicine, Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry in Morgantown, WV. Duties will be to provide institutional primary care for psychiatric patients, to include: initial medical evaluation with periodic follow-up as needed; monitoring and maintenance treatment of acute and chronic illnesses; review of laboratory results, ECG's, imaging studies, and treatment appropriately; scheduling of health screenings; coordination of acute transfer of patients as needed to the local medical surgical hospital located one mile away; referrals for specialist care outside of the hospital. This position will also involve teaching of psychiatric residents on rotation at the hospital as well as students in various social work and counseling programs and other disciplines including psychology and medicine. You will be joining six or more psychiatric faculty, including one or more with board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.

Candidates must have an M.D. degree or equivalent, completed an accredited family medicine residency and possess a WV Medical License by the time of appointment. Candidates must be board certified in Family Medicine and have at least five years of experience. Those with additional training in psychiatry are encouraged to apply.

This faculty position includes competitive salary and excellent benefits: 24 vacation days per year, holidays received follow state holidays, five academic days to pursue continued educational units, and a limited stipend per year for educational endeavors. Work duty is eight hours per day, five days per week, with full benefits, vacation, and time off for conferences. No call.

William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital is a 150 bed fully accredited state psychiatric hospital. An additional 50 beds are being added to the hospital in the near future. The hospital provides treatment to involuntary committed adults with a variety of diagnoses.
