Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at Harpers Ferry

The Geriatric faculty and residents will provide a unique rural outreach Geriatric Assessment and Memory Clinics at one or two remote rural locations in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. These will be located in Grant and Hardy Counties in a rural community health center location as well as an established VA CBOC (Community Based Outpatient Clinic). Local primary care practitioners will be invited to refer patients for evaluation and to also attend the clinics in an educational role.

The Health Sciences & Technology Academy (HSTA)

The program focus on increasing the number of under-represented students who pursue degrees in Health Sciences and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields, with the long term goal of increasing the number of health practitioners & advocates in the medical field locally

MedSTEP

MedSTEP was launched in 2003 as a joint project between Shepherd University and the West Virginia University School of Medicine. The program helps prepare students for medical school as well as ease the financial burden of the application process. It is a competitive process, and all applicants are not guaranteed acceptance. Those who are accepted will complete their undergraduate degree and required premedical courses at Shepherd University.

DentSTEP

Along with having an impact on the health of a region, a career in dentistry offers a variety of challenges and rewards. Today's dental professionals focus not only on the diagnosis and detection of oral health problems, and educate patients on how to prevent oral disease, but also on cosmetic treatments that improve a patient's appearance.

PharmSTEP

PharmSTEP was created as a joint project between Shepherd University and the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. It is designed for high school students who wish to pursue a career in Pharmacy. This program is very competitive, and all applicants are not guaranteed acceptance.Those who are accepted will complete their first two years of required prepharmacy courses at Shepherd University.
