About Us

The West Virginia University Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) is a family of sections working together to provide comprehensive emergency care to the people of West Virginia.  DEM serves as a home base for our 3 year Residency program and also houses the administrative offices of our teaching faculty and staff. DEM is where physician assistant and medical students get information about shadowing and rotating, and where our residents practice their classroom teaching skills, get started on their research projects and come for regularly held educational conferences. It is located on the 7th floor of the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center in Morgantown, WV.

The WVUH Emergency Department (ED) is home to the John Michael Moore Trauma Center, northern West Virginia's Level I trauma center. The ED is the primary stroke center in northern WV, and has approximately 45,000 visits per year. The ED houses medical command for the region, and is home base for Health Net I which serves a 75 mile radius around Morgantown, including border counties of neighboring states. The ED is also the primary training ground for our Emergency Medicine Residents.
