TENURE TRACK ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY

The Division of Exercise Physiology, West Virginia University School of Medicine (http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/som/ep) invites applications from outstanding candidates for one tenure track (12 month) position. Appointment will be made as an ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR in Exercise Physiology.
The successful candidate will contribute to both the teaching and the research missions of the Division of Exercise Physiology, which is ranked 7th nationally by the Chronicle of Higher Education. Candidates with postdoctoral training and who have a publication record using modern basic and/or translational approaches, relevant teaching experience, and whose research complements the research strengths of the faculty in Exercise Physiology, including diabetes/obesity, cardiovascular disease, sarcopenia/muscle biology, stroke, motor control or cancer biology are particularly encouraged to apply. The potential for research collaborations with the Center for Cardiovascular and Respiratory Sciences (http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/ccrs/), Center for Neuroscience (http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/wvucn/), Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center (http://www.wvucancer.org/research/Collaborative-Research-Initiatives) or a Mission-Based Center (http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/som/Centers-and-Institutes.aspx) within the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, is expected. This appointment is offered in accordance with the provisions of West Virginia University as described in the Faculty Handbook (http://www.wvu.edu/~acadaff/fac/Handbook/). A competitive salary, startup funds, research space and equipment will be provided commensurate with experience. Appointment at the level of an Assistant Professor will require evidence of postdoctoral training, success/potential for obtaining extramural funding for research, and evidence of strong peer-reviewed publications in this area of research. Appointment as an Associate Professor or higher will require evidence of extramural grant funding (e.g., NIH R01 or equivalent), evidence of successful teaching and mentoring of graduate students to degree completion, and meet the promotion and tenure guidelines for this position. The appointment is available July 1, 2012.

FACULTY POSITION IN EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY

It is anticipated that the faculty appointment will be made as an INSTRUCTOR in Exercise Physiology. An appointment could be made at a higher rank and will depend upon the applicant’s qualifications. Applicants must hold a PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent in Exercise Physiology, or a closely related field at the time of their appointment, and have teaching experience in Exercise Physiology/Kinesiology.
The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching mission of the Division of Exercise Physiology, which is ranked 7th nationally by the Chronicle of Higher Education. Candidates who have relevant laboratory teaching experience in Exercise Physiology (e.g., cardiovascular physiology and strength and conditioning) are especially encouraged to apply. Although this is not primarily a research position, the potential for research collaborations with one of the Interdisciplinary Research Centers including the Center for Neuroscience (http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/wvucn/), the Center for Cardiovascular and Respiratory Sciences (http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/ccrs/), or the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center (http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/mbrcc/research/researchDivisions.asp), and/or a Mission-Based Center (http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/som/Centers-and-Institutes.aspx) is possible.
