Mission

Mission Statement
The purpose of the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Interest Group (CTVSIG) is to provide insight, academic enrichment, and guidance to medical students considering a career in the fields of cardiothoracic and/ or vascular surgery. Our goals and activities include:
1. Introducing students to the fields of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. This will be accomplished by hosting clinician speakers monthly to discuss their fields.
2. Providing guidance to students on how to pursue a career in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, including how to make themselves the best candidates possible for residency and fellowship applications.
3. Facilitating lasting professional relationships between medical students and cardiothoracic and vascular surgery residents, fellows, attending clinicians, and faculty.
4. Providing hands-on extracurricular academic enrichment by introducing students to various clinical skills and surgical techniques relevant to these fields of surgery through simulation lab sessions and clinical skills workshops.
5. Encouraging interested students to observe operating room procedures and become involved with faculty at the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute.
