Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE)
SURE is a summer undergraduate research experience for students interested in a career or graduate school experience in the scientific disciplines. Selected students will work in research labs at West Virginia University for 8 weeks during the summer under the direction of a WVU faculty research mentor and a graduate or post-doctoral mentor. Although the opportunity is offered through the WVU Honors College, being a member of the Honors College is not required.
Deadline February 28, 2018
Immunology and Medical Microbiology Undergraduate Research Internship Program
The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology will offer internships of research-intensive training for qualified undergraduate students from the program of Immunology and Medical Microbiology at West Virginia University. The research opportunities are available in the fields of Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, Immunology, Neuro-immunology, Vaccinology, Cancer Cell Biology and Molecular Biology. Selected participants will work on research projects at WVU under the direction of a Primary member of the faculty from the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology.
The research internship program is designed to provide long-term financial support so that students may enter a research laboratory following their Sophomore year and continue in the laboratory throughout their Junior and Senior year, including summer sessions. This will provide continuity for 2 years for both the student and research mentor and foster successful research programs. The program will support 4 students each year. Interns will join a laboratory the summer after the Sophomore year and have 2 full years to develop and conduct an independent research project. The internship will provide invaluable experience and enhance their opportunities for success in graduate school, professional school, industry or government after graduation.
