Objectives

To observe and learn techniques in history taking and physical examination of the patient with pain. To become familiar with the different medications and techniques used in acute pain management. To become familiar with the different classes of medications and techniques in chronic pain management.

Methods to Achieve Objectives

Observation and eventual participation in evaluation of the pain patient in the clinic and hospital. Observation and participation in the care of hospitalized patients with pain, including hospital rounds and the observation of procedures. Observation and participation in the care of chronic pain patients in the clinic and during outpatient procedures.

Examination Procedures and Evaluation Criteria

Daily observation, written and oral testing.

Pre-Rotation Instructions

WVU Students/Visiting Students: 4th year coordinator will email students one week prior with parking instructions and immunization clearance for private office. On the first day of rotation, report at 8:00 AM - Report to office.
