Otoloaryngology

STATUS: This rotation fulfills a surgery elective.

Objectives

Full-time elective in clinical Otolaryngology. The student will participate in the management of common problems encountered in an academic practice of Otolaryngology (head and neck surgery). Daily exposure to the entire spectrum of otolaryngologic practice is encouraged. Proficiency in diagnosing ENT problems, as well as recognizing complex problems that require referral will be gained. Exposure to common surgical procedures will be undertaken in order to allow the student to better understand the pathophysiology of many common ENT diseases.

Methods to Achieve Objectives

Students will meet the preceptor who will familiarize them with the basic equipment and examination used in everyday ENT practice. Students are encouraged to participate on rounds and in the care of in-house patients. Active participation in clinics under the supervision of faculty is maintained. Time will be made available with ancillary personnel (Audiology, Speech, and Allergy) for lectures and demonstrations.

Examination Procedures and Evaluation Criteria

Clinical evaluation by attending, attendance and participation in all assigned patient care activities and completion of assigned readings.
