STATUS: Elective (Can be scheduled as a rural community rotation)

Objectives

To provide clinical experience and familiarity with the diagnosis and management of patients with acute and chronic pulmonary diseases.

Methods to Achieve Objectives

Performance of history and physical examinations on both inpatients and outpatients.  The student will examine patients in both the office setting and in the hospital.  They will also perform history and physical examinations on patients admitted to the Pulmonary Service and will perform consultations as requested by other medical services.  The students will learn how to interpret chest x-rays, CT scans, PET scans, and spend time in the Pulmonary function laboratory gaining experience in pulmonary physiology.  The students will participate in fiberoptic bronchoscopy.
