Neurology Lecture Series
Conference Summary
Neurology Conferences occur every day from 12:00-1:00 PM. In additon, on Friday mornings from 8:00-9:00 AM we have Grand Rounds. The noon conferences cover many areas such as July Lecture Series, Basic Sciences, Formulation Rounds, Pediatric Conference, Neuropathology Conference, Neuroradiology Conference, Muscle Conference, Stroke conference, Journal Club, Epilepsy Conference, and RITE preparation ( Click here for a sample of the monthly conference schedule ). Every Tuesday morning 7:00-8:00 AM Stroke Conferences are held to include Morbidity & Mortality, Research and Performance and Quality Improvement. Most conferences are presented by faculty members.
July Lecture Series: Daily lectures in order to help new residents become comfortable with neurology wards & the neurologic examination including core competencies, documentation lecture and risk management (Click here to view a July 2011 Lecture series).
Neuroradiology: Occurs on the first Monday of the month and is presented by our Neuroradiology faculty. Both neurology and radiology residents are present and it covers basic imaging and interesting cases.
Basic Sciences: Occurs on Mondays starting in August and covers anatomy, physiology including EEG and EMG/NCS, and pharmacology (Click here to view the basic sciences lecture series).
Formulation Rounds: Occurs on Tuesday afternoon with case based discussions presented by a faculty member. The residents use thier neurologic background in order to evaluate and treat the patient (Click here to view the formulation rounds lecture series).
EEG Lecture: Occurs 2nd Tuesday each month hosted by Adriana Palade, M.D., Epileptologist. These lectures educate residents regarding normal EEG, EEG artifacts and abnormal interesting EEGs.
Neuropathology Conference: Occurs Wednesday at noon and is presented by Neuropathology faculty. Both neurology and pathology residents are present and it covers interesting cases with slides presented for review.
Epilepsy Conference: Occurs Wednesday afternoon and is a multidisciplinary conference presented in conjunction with neurology, psychiatry and neurosurgery. Patients with intractable epilepsy are presented and the plan of care discussed.
"Residents as Teachers" Lecture Series: This is an opportunity for residents to gain experience and confidence in presenting as well as teaching topics of interest including Neuroimaging and Neuropharmacology to residents and medical students.
Journal Club: Occurs the first Thursday of the month, interesting recent journal articles are presented - one by a resident and one by a faculty member.
Pediatrics Conference: Occurs on the third Thursday of the month and it is presented by Pediatric Neurology faculty. Both neurology and pediatric residents are present for case based discussions.
Grand Rounds: Occurs on Friday at 8:00 AM. Interesting cases with classic/rare findings (example: Dopamine Responsive Dystonia & Wilson's Disease) are presented by the senior residents to the Neurology department and plan of care is discussed.
Muscle Conference: Occurs the first Friday of the month and presented by the neurophysiology fellow. Both neurology and pathology residents are present for clinico-pathological correlation of interesting neuromuscular cases.
Stroke Conference: Occurs on one Friday of the month. Stroke pages and patients treated with intravenous or intraarterial tPA, patients needing interventional treatment with clot retreival devices are discussed by stroke faculty.
Friday Noon conference: Topics are presented by Neurology Faculty and invited guests. (Click here to view the Friday noon conference series ).
