Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Course to be offered in the fall

Would you like to be more prepared to help yourself and your community in the event of an emergency or disaster? The Center for Service and Learning, in partnership with the Monongalia County Health Department, will offer SRVL 393A, Campus Leadership Through Service - WVU CERT again this fall semester. Through in-class and onsite training as well as field practice and service-learning in the community, students will complete the course with certification for and membership to WVU's Campus CERT or Community Emergency Response Team.

This course can enable both undergraduate and graduate level students to earn three credit hours while participating in service and developing skills that will prepare them for times of personal or widespread disaster. Course topics include disaster preparedness, disaster medical operations and triage, fire safety, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, awareness and response techniques for both sexual assault and substance, and terrorism prevention and response.

Classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 4:00 to 6:50 p.m. in G10 Oglebay Hall (CRN #88608). Students from all backgrounds, in any major, and with all levels of physical ability are invited to enroll. The course does have a departmental hold for registration.
