About Us

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was established to advance the health and well being of the women of West Virginia and surrounding Region. We accomplish this by supporting the programmatic initiatives of our faculty and staff in the areas of patient care, education, and research. We are committed to providing quality health care services to all women; educating health care providers; and conducting research to advance our understanding of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

As of 2010-11, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is composed of 34 faculty members, 12 Residents and 37 staff members. Our faculty offer medical services in all areas of Obstetrics and Gynecology from routine care for health maintenance to cutting edge technologies.

We are especially known for our care of women with high risk pregnancies and advanced Gynecologic problems. Our high risk pregnancy physicians are backed-up by the largest NICU in the state while our gynecologic surgeons are trained in advanced minimally invasive and robotic surgery. Our infertility practice has an IVF pregnancy rate that exceeds national success rates.

The WVU Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology also offers comprehensive routine care in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Our primary care clinicians are uniquely qualified to support our patients through all of the stages of a women’s life. At our Cheat Lake Practice, we offer a specialized “Women Caring for Women” practice that is composed of nine female medical providers that are sensitive to women’s health concerns.
