Women's Mental Health/Wellness

The Division of Women’s Mental Health and Wellness provides comprehensive mental health services for our patients throughout their life span. We serve all women in our region with a commitment to excellence in clinical care for the prevention and management of issues relating to their mental and emotional health. In addition to addressing the physical and emotional changes associated with pregnancy, infertility, and loss or bereavement, the Division also treats patients coping with a variety of women’s health concerns including issues related to aging, illness, adolescence, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, parenting, relationships, and other life transitions. The Division’s clinical services are fully integrated, allowing patients to receive the full spectrum of services they require.

In addition to providing patient care, the Division offers opportunities for training, research, and outreach. Mental health issues, interviewing skills, and treatment approaches are included in resident and medical student lectures, and are addressed in the clinical setting. Collaborative training opportunities exist with the WVU Children’s Hospital Psychosocial Support Services team and the behavioral health staff of Family Medicine. Research opportunities are available as well, focusing on improving an understanding of women’s mental health issues and effective treatment. The Division is also involved in community-based outreach programs that address the needs of particular populations to improve healthy outcomes of pregnancy, and to create a safety net of services for these populations that relate to pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting.
