Adult Reconstruction

Letter from the Program Director

The Adult Reconstruction Fellowship at the West Virginia University School of Medicine offers surgeons comprehensive training in hip and knee replacement surgery.  This one year training program exposes fellows to simple and complex primary arthroplasty, revision hip and knee arthroplasty, post-traumatic arthritis, periprosthetic fractures, and prosthetic joint infections.  Fellows will learn less-invasive surgical techniques as well as computer and robotic assisted surgery.  The Fellowship not only provides education on the pathoanatomy and treatment of complex joint diseases but also proper care of patients receiving hip and knee replacements.

Ample research opportunities are available and fellows are expected to produce research projects for publication and presentation at national meetings.  The Adult Reconstruction Service is an integral part of the Department of Orthopaedics and fellows will participate in the education of orthopaedic residents and medical students.  A weekly didactic conference schedule including Grand Rounds enhances fellow education and expands presentation and teaching skills.

Our faculty members are fellowship trained from multiple backgrounds and are members of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Musculoskeletal Infection Society, and the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society.  We have published peer reviewed articles and book chapters, and have produced abstracts, posters and podium presentations at regional and national meetings.  The fellowship will prepare surgeons for a successful practice in the private setting and to excel in academics and research.  We hope that you will consider our program as you plan for your future career.

Sincerely,

Benjamin M. Frye, MD
