Teaching Conferences
House staff are encouraged to maintain an active interest in recent medical developments. Among the teaching conferences scheduled are:
Pediatric Grand Rounds
Grand Rounds is held each Wednesday from8-9am in RCBHSC Room 1901. (CME Credit is Offered.)
Grand Rounds includes discussion of current pediatric topics by pediatric faculty or visiting professors..
Check In Rounds
Check In rounds are held daily beginning at 7 am in the resident work room on 6E. Interns present the patients who were admitted to the general pediatric team overnight. A general discussion of differential diagnoses, treatment modalities, and current literature pertinent to the presumptive diagnosis are explained. House staff, medical students, and faculty are in attendance. This process provides supervised transition of care, as well as education for the resident team. Family centered rounds begin immediately following Check In rounds.
Didactic Lectures
Didactic lectures are held in the Pediatric Conference Room on the 4th floor HSC. Sessions are held every Tuesday afternoon from noon until 5 pm. Lunch is provided for the residents during this conference. This didactic lecture time is protected. The clinical services are covered by attending faculty. Didactic lecture sessions are mandatory for all categorical pediatric residents and medicine/pediatric residents rotating on pediatrics. Sessions incorporate faculty lectures on board relevant topics, board review, resident case presentations, radiology “Show and Tell”, Morbidity and Mortality, simulation lab, various hands on workshops, journal club, monthly Mock Board test, and Chest Rounds.
