Twenty-five physicians joined the School of Medicine

August, September 2018 faculty arrivals

ANESTHESIOLOGY
Yosaf Zeyed, MD, joins the Department of Anesthesiology. He completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Miami.

Nicole Hollis, DO, joins the Department of Anesthesiology having completed a regional anesthesiology fellowship at UPMC.

BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE AND PSYCHIATRY
Achuta Ram Aynampudi, MD, joins the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry. He completed a psychiatry residency at Texas Tech University.

Olivia Shuttleworth, MSW, joins the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry’s Sharpe Hospital location. She is a former clinical therapist at Sharpe Hospital and clinical social worker at Chestnut Ridge Center. She was most recently with Pro Medical in Morgantown.

David Scarisbrick, PhD, joins the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry. He was formerly a neuropsychologist at Bay Pines VA Healthcare System. He completed neuropsychology fellowship at the University of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Va., and earned his PhD in clinical psychology at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fl.

EMERGENCY MEDICINE
Courtney Cundiff, MD, joins the Department of Emergency Medicine faculty after completing her emergency medicine residency at WVU. She will practice at Ruby Memorial and United Hospital Center.

Jessica Neidhardt, MD, joins the Department of Emergency Medicine faculty after completing her emergency medicine residency at WVU. She will practice at Ruby Memorial and United Hospital Center.

HEART AND VASCULAR INSTITUTE
Ankit Sakhuja, MD, joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute’s Cardiac Critical Care division. He completed a nephrology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic and renal transplant fellowship and critical care medicine fellowship at thr Mayo Clinic. He was an assistant professor of medicine at Mayo.

MEDICINE
Rafia Zulfikar, MD, joins the Department of Medicine. She completed a pulmonary/critical care fellowship at WVU and an internal medicine residency at Geisinger.

Dinesh Kannabhiran, MD, joins the Department of Medicine’s nephrology division. He was previously the Medical Director of Transplant Services at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, Ill. as well as nephrology faculty at the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

Janna Baker Rogers, MD, joins the Department of Medicine’s Geriatric, Palliative and Hospice Care division. She completed palliative medicine fellowship at the Washington Hospital Health System. 

Edward Isla, MD, joins the Department of Medicine’s hospitalist service. He was formerly a hospitalist with Trinity Health System in Steubenville, Ohio. 

NEUROSURGERY
Mark Lee, MD, PhD, 
is the new chair of the Department of Neurosurgery. He was formerly a pediatric neurosurgeon at Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas, Austin. He previously served as the Allen Distinguished Chair in Neurosurgery at the Medical College of Georgia. He completed a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at New York University and an epilepsy surgery fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia.

OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY
Krista Pfaendler, MD, joins the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s gynecologic oncology division. She completed her fellowship at the University of California, Irvine.

OPHTHALMOLOGY
Thomas Mauger, MD, is the new chair of the Department of Ophthalmology. He was formerly chairman and professor of ophthalmology at Ohio State University, as well as consultant for Columbus Children's Hospital. He is a graduate of Ohio State with a master's in healthcare management from the Harvard School of Public Health. He completed a fellowship in cornea and external disease at Ohio State.

OTOLARYNGOLOGY
Amy Hwang, MD,
joins the Department of Otolaryngology. She was formerly an otolaryngologist with an otology focus at ENT Associates of Johnstown. She completed an otology fellowship at Pittsburgh Ear Associates and a plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at the University of California, Davis.

PEDIATRICS
Lubna Mehyar, MD, joins the Department of Pediatrics. She completed a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. 

Nita Ray Chaudhuri, MD, joins the Department of Pediatrics. She completed a pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of Minnesota and pediatric cardiac MRI fellowship at Boston Children’s.

RADIATION ONCOLOGY
Paul Renz, DO, joins the Department of Radiation Oncology. He completed a radiation oncology residency at Allegheny General Hospital.

RADIOLOGY
Cathy Kim, MD, joins the Department of Radiology. She was formerly with UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in the division of cardiothoracic radiology.

SURGERY
James Bardes, MD, joins the Division of Trauma, Emergency Surgery & Surgical Critical Care in the Department of Surgery. He completed a trauma fellowship at the University of Southern California and general surgery residency at WVU.

Brian Boone, MD, joins the Department of Surgery’s surgical oncology division. He completed a surgical oncology fellowship, a research fellowship and general surgery residency at UPMC.

Lauren Dudas, MD, joins the Division of Trauma, Emergency Surgery & Surgical Critical Care in the Department of Surgery. She completed a surgical critical care fellowship at the University of Kentucky.

Emily Groves, MD, joins the Department of Surgery’s surgical oncology division. She completed a colon and rectal surgery fellowship at the University of Texas Health McGovern Medical School in Houston and earned her MD at Marshall University.

Michael Cowher, MD, joins the Department of Surgery’s surgical oncology and breast surgery division. He was formerly the quality assurance director of Breast Surgical Oncology and co-director of the Breast Surgery Fellowship at Allegheny Health Network.
