Fence at WVU Medicine Children's construction site has moved

As construction on the new WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital escalates and expands, a relocation of the construction zone perimeter security fencing took place Monday, Feb. 3.

The construction manager will begin relocating the fence to allow for installation of a new underground emergency generator fuel tank, relocation of a main natural gas line, and the drilling of new foundation caissons for the new central energy plant expansion.

This move will displace 20 parking spaces at the Chestnut Ridge Center parking lot but no patient services will be interrupted. Security, Chestnut Ridge managers, and Planning, Design and Construction have a solution in place to ensure that patients and visitors will be afforded access to the hospital:

  • Security officers will be present during daytime hours to restrict, monitor, aid, and assist with patient parking in the Chestnut RIdge Center vicinity.
  • Current parking designations will be revised to allow for Chestnut Ridge Center patients and visitors to park in those spaces starting Monday, Jan. 20.
  • As many parking spaces as possible will be re-striped in an angled fashion to create several new additional spaces.
  • The Chestnut Ridge Center lot for off-shift and weekend parking is restricted to patient and visitor parking only, with no spaces designated for employees.
