Craig named assistant director for strategic planning, research and impact for STEPS

Jason Craig has been named assistant director for strategic planning, research and impact for the David and Jo Ann Shaw Center for Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS), WVU’s premier simulation center that provides students with simulated scenarios to grow their skills before engaging in direct patient care.

In this role, he is responsible for leading strategic planning efforts, overseeing research and evaluation initiatives and supporting data-driven program development that advances excellence in simulation-based education and clinical training.

Craig began his career at STEPS in November of 2011 as a simulation specialist. As STEPS grew, so did Craig’s responsibilities. He became more involved in education delivery and curriculum development, earning the title of simulation education specialist. In December 2021, he took on the role of simulation research specialist as he worked to increase the amount and quality of research projects conducted within STEPS. He held that title until his recent promotion.

Craig is a two-time WVU graduate, completing the Regents Bachelor of Arts program and earning his Master of Business Administration degree.

Before coming to WVU, Craig served the Greene County Department of Emergency Services as a Counterterrorism Task Force assistant and then as the planning and operations officer. He became an emergency medical technician while still in high school and later advanced to paramedic.

STEPS is equipped with fully responsive technology that provides learners from all five health sciences schools – Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health – with a safe setting to improve their skills before encountering patients in everyday and critical care situations.
