Department of Internal Medicine Eastern Division welcomes newly-matched residents to inaugural Eastern Internal Medicine Residency class
The West Virginia University Department of Internal Medicine Eastern Division will welcome six newly-matched residents to campus in June as the inaugural class for the Eastern Internal Medicine Residency Program.
The program joins the Rural Family Medicine Residency Program as the second ACGME-accredited residency program hosted on the School of Medicine’s Eastern Campus. The three-year residency program is hosted at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg and is led by program director Ryan McCarthy, M.D.
The program welcomes incoming residents Anisha Dangol, M.D., from Nepal Medical College in Kathmandu, Nepal; Urooj Fatima, M.D., from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan; Yona Gebeyehu, M.D., from Addis Ababa University in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Akshay Kesari, M.D., from Avalon University in Willemstad, Curaçao; Sibel Yilmaz, M.D., from Ondokuz Mayis University in Samsun, Turkey; and Tayyaba Zaffar, M.D., from Ziauddin Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan.
“Our campus family welcomes the inaugural internal medicine residency class to the Eastern Campus. This talented group of young physicians brings a wide variety of skills from a diverse set of backgrounds, all with the common goal of becoming world-class internal medicine physicians,” Dr. McCarthy said. “Our staff and faculty are excited to work with these residents, each of whom will make a positive impact on the health of our community.”
Throughout the three-year curriculum, residents will be exposed to in-depth internal medicine training and a full complement of specialty practices. The program also features four unique signature programs, each aimed at addressing major health concerns in West Virginia and the surrounding region.
