Dr. Ali Hajiran Achieves Career Milestone: 500 Major Robotic Urologic Cancer Surgeries

Ali Hajiran, MD, chief of Urologic Oncology and director of Robotic Surgery at the WVU Cancer Institute, has achieved a career milestone – performing 500 major robotic urologic cancer surgeries. This achievement reflects his commitment to surgical excellence and delivering high-quality care to patients with prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers across West Virginia and beyond.

Robotic-assisted surgery has become the gold standard for many urologic malignancies because it’s minimally invasive and precise, and has potential for faster recovery.

“Reaching this milestone is not just about the number – it’s about the trust patients place in us and the consistency of care we’ve been able to provide,” Dr. Hajiran said. “Each case represents a story, a family, and a responsibility that I’ve been honored to carry.”

Under Dr. Hajiran’s leadership, the WVU Cancer Institute has established itself as a premier referral center for minimally invasive urologic cancer surgery. He has played a critical role in expanding the robotic surgery program, mentoring residents, and fostering a culture of innovation and compassion.

Well done, Dr. Hajiran!
