IMPACT WV program to host trainings for families and providers focused on relationships and substance use disorder

The IMPACT WV program at the WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities (CED) is hosting two different virtual trainings centered around relationships and how they can be affected by substance use disorder.

A training for providers called "Building Bonds of Attachment Through a Substance Use Disorder" will take place on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

A training for families called "Building and Repairing Early Relationships" will take place on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

Both trainings happen from 12-2 p.m. EST and are facilitated by Amanda Newhouse, LICSW, Certified Touchpoints Facilitator, Brazelton Touchpoints Center of Boston Children's Hospital, Associate Professor, WVU Medicine, The Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry, Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, WVU.

Building Bonds of Attachment Through a Substance Use Disorder

What will providers learn?

  1. Learn the benefits of a strength-based approach
  2. Learn the impact of substance use on early attachment
  3. Identify how the brain processes early experiences
  4. Identify best practice treatment approaches

Who should attend?

Providers working with families on the impact of separation on different developmental stages, learning how to reconnect through limit setting and interactions.

CEUs for STARS, Social Work, OT, PT, and WVCBAPP pending.

Building and Repairing Early Relationships
Free virtual training for families

When: Wednesday, July 16, 2025
12-2 p.m. EST

What will families learn?

  1. Learn the importance of early interactions and social emotional development
  2. Identify the impacts of emotional regulation
  3. Learn how to promote social emotional development in the 0-3 age range
  4. Identify the benefits of child directed interaction and compliance

Who should attend?

Families with children ages 0-3 dealing with the impact of separation on different developmental stages and learning how to reconnect through limit setting and interactions.
