Please join us for a retirement celebration honoring Anne Swisher, PT, PhD, FAPTA, on Thursday, June 18, at the WVU Health Sciences Center Pylons Lobby from 2:30 – 4 p.m.

Dr. Swisher is a professor in the School of Medicine’s Division of Physical Therapy.

Swisher joined the faculty at WVU in 1994 after practicing in both North Carolina and Delaware. She achieved the rank of full professor with tenure in 2012.

During her time at WVU, Swisher was instrumental in establishing the role of physical therapy in the management of cystic fibrosis and critical care. She helped establish the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy Residency Program in partnership with WVU Medicine, and she also played a critical role in developing a physical therapy service line for oncology patients.

In recognition of her years of service, Swisher has been named Professor Emeritus.

Swisher has earned two Fulbright awards, and most notably, in 2016 she was named a Catherine Worthingham Fellow of the American Physical Therapy Association, making her the first WVU faculty member to achieve that distinction.

Swisher, a Morgantown native, earned her bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from WVU, a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a PhD in Applied Exercise Science from WVU. She became a board-certified clinical specialist in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy in 2000.
