Interested in learning about infectious diseases and how they are transmitted?

The School of Public Health is offering a new undergraduate-level course in the spring 2026 semester for any students interested in learning about infectious diseases and the role of public health in disease transmission and control.

PUBH 493A: Infectious Disease Epidemiology is a 3-credit course offered in person in the spring 2026 semester at the WVU Health Sciences Center, Room G119A North, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. (Course Registration Information: CRN 17195). During the course, students will gain an overview of infectious diseases, their context, transmission and control.

Learning objectives for the course are:

• Demonstrate basic understanding of disease emergence.
• Appraise the role of epidemiology as it relates to infectious diseases.
• Distinguish between predominant modes of transmission and types of diseases.
• Evaluate the mechanisms of disease control and eradication.
