Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days program kicks off May 23

Registration is underway for WVU Medicine’s 28th annual Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days® program, which kicks off on Monday, May 23.

The 15-week walking program runs until Aug. 30 and encourages participants to walk at least a mile a day as a form of exercise.

“Last year, we had over 6,000 people participate, making Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days® the largest exercise program in the state,” says Dave Harshbarger, wellness manager for WVU Medicine.

“Although we state that the goal for participants is to walk at least one mile per day for 100 days, there is no limit as to how many miles can be reported per day,” Harshbarger says.

Participants can register individually or create or join walking teams. Other forms of equivalent aerobic exercise also count – 20 minutes equals one mile.

This year, there will be a kick-off walk held on Wednesday, May 25, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital at noon in conjunction with the WVU Medicine Farmers Market. The walk will be led by the WVU Mountaineer mascot, and participants will gather at the outside entrance next to the Bruce McClymonds Conference Center to go for a one-mile walk (weather permitting).

Please note: WVU Medicine and Allied Health Solutions employees and covered spouses enrolled in a WVU Medicine medical plan will participate in Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days® through the Wellness Rewards portal.
