WVU Department of Medicine and WVCTSI partnering to fund COVID-19 data projects
The COVID-19 pandemic requires unique, creative research ideas to answer fundamental questions regarding the new virus. The West Virginia University Department of Medicine (WVU DOM) in partnership with the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI) is offering an initiative to engage WVU DOM fellows in the generation of traditional statistical observations/models related to COVID-19 outcomes or incidence.
Teams of 2 to 4 fellows are required to work with their section chiefs, program directors and other team members to discuss ideas before emailing Wes Kimble, WVCTSI assistant director of clinical research services, at wkimble1@hsc.wvu.edu to express their intent to apply. Please include a list of investigators including the name of the lead fellow and his/her department and section, and a 300-word (max) description. Emails must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 5.
After emailing to express their intent to apply, each group of fellows will receive a COVID-19 dataset and additional instructions to develop their initial insights (no more than 2 pages) withthe support of their section chief (or designee), program directors and other team members which must be submitted via email back to Wes Kimble by 11:59 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2020.
Two to four prizes of $2,000 per team will be awarded to the teams judged to have the most promising project ideas, and WVCTSI will provide data services to facilitate implementation of the ideas selected.
