WVU Eye Institute to host free flood relief clinic for families affected by recent flooding in central West Virginia
The West Virginia University Eye Institute will host a free flood relief clinic for families affected by recent flooding in Central West Virginia at WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon on Saturday, August 29, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Services provided include eye exams, health screenings and eyeglasses repairs, as well as the distribution of free flood relief supplies. The Eye Institute will accept donations of new, unopened flood relief supplies for distribution at the clinic until Friday, August 28. Donations can be dropped off on the second floor of the Eye Institute in room E212. View a full list of accepted donation supplies below:
- Cleaning and Recovery
- Trash bags, buckets, mops, paper towels, disinfecting cleaners, etc.
- Personal Care and Baby Supplies
- Menstrual products, deodorant, shampoo, diapers, wipes, formula, etc.
- Household Supplies
- Toilet paper, dish soap, storage bags, laundry detergent, etc.
- Food and Water
- Bottled water, electrolyte drinks, canned food, shelf-stable meals, snacks, etc.
- Pet Supplies
- Pet food, cat litter, bowls, leashes, collars, carriers, etc.
- Comfort and Emergency
- Blankets, towels, pillows, flashlights, batteries, phone chargers, etc.
- Drying and Restoration
- Box fans, moisture absorbers, work gloves, safety goggles, etc.
Glasses will also be available for purchase starting at $25 for basic lenses, plus an additional $50 for transition lenses or $60 for progressive bifocals. The purchase of glasses will be cash only, with payment due at the time of service.

This clinic is hosted by the WVU Eye Institute and Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in partnership with WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital, Health Access Free Clinic, the West Virginia Lions Club, the Appalachian Vision Outreach Program and the Eye Shop.
