WVU's 'Brain Camp' teaching young students about neuroscience field

Some young, bright minds are at WVU this week learning about what makes their minds function.

Brain Camp is underway at the WVU School of Medicine's Neuroscience Department and the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute.

14 high school juniors and seniors from across the country are attending the first-ever camp.

They're getting hands-on demonstrations in different areas of the neuroscience field. Campers also get a look at the labs where WVU researchers conduct their work and hear from professionals in the neuroscience industry.

Organizers said this gives students a look at possible career opportunities in the field and keeps their brains active during the summer.

"It keeps them sharp for going back to school in the fall," said Brain Camp Coordinator Morgan Prunty. "It gives them more opportunities they wouldn't get during the school year because they're so focused on classes. This broadens their horizons a bit."

The camp runs until Friday.
