WVU Urology team represented at West Virginia American College of Surgeons annual meeting
The WVU Department of Urology was well-represented this past week at the 75th Annual West Virginia Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) meeting, held April 30–May 2 at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.
The event gathered surgical leaders from across the state to share clinical breakthroughs and strategies for improving patient care in both rural and academic settings.
Two Department of Urology faculty members showcased the innovative work happening at WVU.
Ali Hajiran, M.D., associate professor and chief of urologic oncology, presented "Adopting Single-Port Robotic Surgery in the Abdomen and Pelvis," detailing how advanced robotic technology is evolving to improve recovery times and expand surgical capabilities for patients throughout the region.
John Barnard, M.D., associate professor and chief of reconstructive urology, presented "Lower Urinary Tract Reconstruction After Complex Pelvic Trauma," where he highlighted the power of multidisciplinary teamwork in managing even the most complex reconstructive cases.
"It was exciting to see Drs. Barnard and Hajiran represent our department and share their innovative efforts with surgical colleagues from across the country," said Steven Campbell, M.D., chair of Urology. "Both are doing outstanding work, and it is vital that we continue to share these advancements to help elevate the quality of care for all West Virginians."
Dr. Campbell stressed that by engaging in these statewide forums, WVU faculty continue to strengthen the collaborative ties that ensure patients have access to advanced care without leaving the state.
