I welcome all students interested in learning about surgery, plastic surgery, research.

What does a typical day in the life of a Plastic Surgeon include?

In surgery, there is not really a typical day. You may believe that your day will consist of one hour surgical case that can become a 4 hour case. Plastic Surgery is very neat because what you will end up doing will depend on the size, location, type of defect that your consultant surgeon will make. It is an everyday exercise of your creativity and capacity of understanding the human body and what it can offer to you.

What is the biggest challenge of being a Plastic Surgeon?

There is not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything that I would like to.

How do you foresee plastic surgery changing over the next 20 years?

Plastic Surgery will continue to expand, we are in the continuum search for healing without scars, replacing like with like such as transplants, stem cell research, new technologies, … Furthermore, the training will be more focus on plastic surgery and its needs and there is a bigger push for improvement of balance work-personal life.

What advice would you give a student who is considering a Plastic Surgery residency?

Plastic Surgery is an amazing field and extremely rewarding, but it is very competitive. You need to prepare well as everything in life. The Plastic Surgery Division door is open for you to come anytime.
