Recruitable Comunities Project - The Recruitable Community Project is a cooperative effort of the West Virginia University Department of Family Medicine, the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health, and other academic and state agencies. The main objective of the project is to aid rural West Virginia communities in the recruitment of health care providers, particularly family physicians. The Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults in a Rural Primary Care Setting - study assesses the rate of functional illiteracy and marginal literacy in the patient population and compares test scores with the presence or absence of chart notation designed to cue the care provider to patient limitations regarding obstacles to compliance associated with written or complex information. Comparison of a Nicotine Replacement Therapy with Wellbutrin SR in a Tobacco Cessation Program - study assesses treatment efficacy rates randomizing moticated quitters to nicotine gum or Wellbutrin SR over a 13 week treatment period with 6 month and 12 month follow-up surveys. Exercise Induced Asthma and Vitamin C - study will determine if 500mg Vitamin C improves pulmonary function by measuring FEV(1) at pre-and post-treadmill challenges lasting up to 10 minutes. PI - Randall Swain, DO.
