The Internal Medicine Global Health Brazil rotation is based out of Santarem, Brazil and incorporates rural health care on the Tapajos and Amazon rivers as well more urban health care of Brazil cities. The resident spends time understanding Brazilian health care via observation/patient care in Santarem and direct patient care in multiple rural settings along the Amazon River. We partner with Amizade and Fundação Esperança to experience the rural patient care via the Quilumbo project, which is an organization that has achieved more than satisfactory results in improving health and quality of life for populations living in western Pará. The rotation is a 10-14 day rotation that includes nights spent in Santarem and on a medical boat.
