DESCRIPTION

Student will function as a primary caretaker, with supervision. Team leadership will be demonstrated, as well as youth and adolescent  psychiatry management using evidence based techniques.

STUDENT OBJECTIVES:

The students will learn to:

  1. Understand Child and Adolescent psychiatric and medical management techniques of both in-patient and outpatient programs.
  2. Become familiar with the various therapies involved in a multidisciplinary approach.
  3. Become familiar with the child and adolescent mentally ill and adolescent patient populations.
  4. Become familiar with management and treatments of Autism spectrum diagnosis and management in children and adolescents in the outpatient setting. 

METHODS TO ACHIEVE OBJECTIVES:

The student will participate in a team approach to assess, evaluate and develop plans of treatment for the adolescent patient. The student will learn collaborative skills in a team setting to work with new patients, prescribe treatments and develop discharge planning. Students will be responsible for appropriate documentation in the form of progress notes and participate in treatment team meetings and therapy sessions.

Proficient management of adolescent inpatients and relations with other staff.
