August 2017 faculty arrivals

ANESTHESIOLOGY
Antonio Cassara, MD joins the Department of Anesthesiology’s pediatric service. He was formerly a faculty member at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where he also completed pediatric anesthesia fellowship. He did his anesthesiology residency at West Penn Hospital.

COMMUNITY PRACTICE
Darrell Donley, MD joins the Department of Community Practice. He is a primary care provider at the WVU Medicine Waynesburg clinic.

EMERGENCY MEDICINE
Sammy Hodroge, MD joins the Department of Emergency Medicine faculty having just completed his residency training here at WVU.

Timothy Sears, MD; James Gainer, MD; Susan Bobes, MD; Joel Hummer, MD and Philip Chua, DO join the Department of Emergency Medicine faculty at Davis Memorial Hospital.

HEART AND VASCULAR INSTITUTE
Christopher Bianco, DO joins the WVU HVI heart failure team. He completed an Advanced Heart Failure fellowship at Case Western Reserve, cardiology fellowship at East Carolina, and internal medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic.

MEDICINE
Lauren Veltri, MD joins the Department of Medicine faculty as a blood and marrow transplant specialist in the division of hematology and oncology. She completed internal medicine residency and hematology/oncology fellowship at WVU followed by a stem cell transplantation fellowship at MD Anderson.

Shahul Valavoor, MD joins the Department of Medicine’s hospitalist service. His previous position was that of a hospitalist at Ottumwa Regional Hospital in Ottumwa, IA.

Zach Zinn, MD rejoins the Department of Medicine faculty as an assistant professor of dermatology. He recently completed pediatric dermatology fellowship at Stanford.

NEUROSURGERY
John Caruso, MD, MBA joins the Department of Neurosurgery as Director of Neurological Surgery at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg as well as WVU Medicine Brain and Spine in Hagerstown, MD. He is the former Managing Partner of Parkway Neuroscience and Spine Institute and President of Parkway Surgical Center.

ORTHOPAEDICS
David Tager, MD joins the Department of Orthopaedics as a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon. He completed fellowship at Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children and orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Missouri.

Bethany Honce, MD joins the physical medicine and rehabilitation division in the Department of Orthopaedics. She is a physiatrist at HealthSouth MountainView. She completed PMR residency at Frazier Rehab Institute in Louisville, KY.  She earned her MD here at WVU.

Karen Barr, MD joins the Department of Orthopaedics as Associate Professor and Chief of the physical medicine and rehabilitation service. She is the former PMR residency director at the University of Washington.

SURGERY
Kristin (Foglia) Lupinacci, DO joins the Department of Surgery. She completed breast surgical oncology fellowship at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh and general surgery residency at NYU Lutheran Medical Center.

Lawrence Tabone, MD returns to the Department of Surgery as Director of Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Tabone’s most recent appointment was at Carolinas Healthcare in Charlotte. He is a former faculty member of the WVU bariatrics division.

Salim Abunnaja, MD joins the Department of Surgery as a bariatric surgeon. He completed fellowship at UCSF, Fresno.

Michael Ost, MD joins the Department of Surgery as a Professor of Pediatric Urology and Associate Surgeon-in-Chief of WVU Medicine Children’s. He was the former Director of Pediatric Urology at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
