INFORMATION YOU SHOULD KNOW

If you are interested in applying to our training program

To be considered for eligibility for Graduate Medical Education Training at West Virginia University, please be sure to carefully read our Policy for Eligibility

Our program participates in the NRMP match system and only accepts applications through the ERAS System.  In order to be considered for an interview offer, all candidates must have a complete application in ERAS.  A complete application consists of a minimum of the following items:

  • Current CV
  • Proof of Citizenship or Immigration Status
  • Personal Statement
  • Eligible for medical licensure in WV
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation

Our application period runs from September 15th through November 30th of each year.  Candidates are selected for interview based on a review of a complete application and are offered interviews based on perceived intellectual ability, personality, and fit to our program.

Interviews are conducted in December of each year with candidates interviewing with as many faculty members as possible during their session.  Candidates will have ample time to talk with faculty and current residents, and will be provided with a full tour of the facilities at WVU.  In addition, we will host a casual dinner the night before the interview, to which candidates and their guests will be invited and encouraged to attend.

Following the conclusion of our interview sessions, our rank order selections are entered into the NRMP system prior to the formal match, which takes place early March of each year.  Our program admits three (3) residents each year at the start of the new Academic Year, which is July 1st , for inclusion into our five-year training program.
