Department of Urology lectureship scheduled for March 8

The WVU School of Medicine Department of Urology is pleased to welcome Joel Gelman, M.D., for the 3rd Annual Stanley J. Kandzari Visiting Professor Lectureship. Dr. Gelman’s lecture will take place Wednesday, March 8, at 8 a.m. in Health Sciences Center – North room 3084 and is open to students, residents, faculty, advanced practice providers (APPs) and nurses.

Gelman serves as the director of the Center for Reconstructive Urology at the University of California, Irvine. He has performed over 1,400 urethral-penile reconstructive surgeries, and his practice is exclusively limited to his area of expertise in male urethral and penile-genital reconstructive surgery.

A world-renowned expert in erectile dysfunction and male urethral and genital reconstruction, Gelman joined the UCI Medical Center faculty in 1998. He completed his urology residency at UCLA. He then became a full-time faculty member at Ohio State University and later completed a fellowship in male adult and pediatric genitourinary reconstruction at the Devine Center in Norfolk, Virginia. Gelman joined the faculty at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York before he was recruited by UCI Medical Center. His areas of expertise include urethral stricture disease and urethroplasty, Peyronie's disease and other disorders of penile curvature (diseases the cause a bent penis), hypospadias, erectile dysfunction, including penile implant surgery, and other disorders of the male urethra and external genitalia.
