A message from Amy L. Bush-Marone, COO, WVU Medicine Children’s

The following is a message from Amy L. Bush-Marone, Chief Operating Officer at WVU Medicine Children’s, about the WVU Medicine Children's Day of Giving on Wednesday, Nov. 13:

At WVU Medicine Children's, our vision goes hand in hand with our mission.

Our mission is simple and straightforward: We want to be THE destination for people of the region who need pediatric specialty care, as well as obstetrics and maternal fetal medicine.

Our vision has shown us where we need to be and that is a new state-of-the-art 150-bed, nine-story hospital for women and children. The demand for our care, for the miracles that happen here, shaped this vision.

Today, I’m glad to announce news that will help us with our mission and our vision. We are partnering with Nextstar to produce a telethon that will air all over the state and in western Maryland as part of the WVU Medicine Children’s Day of Giving on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The WVU Medicine Children’s Day of Giving was inspired by the WVU Day of Giving, an annual fund-raising rally for the University, which has been a great success.

We’re so excited about the partnership with Nextstar, because it offers a much better opportunity to tell our story than merely talking about it. Through video, we will show folks all over the state and region what the new hospital will look like with an animated virtual tour. They will get to meet some of our dedicated providers. Most importantly, we will tell the stories of our miracle patients.

We think this will be a powerful tool to not only raise awareness for the new hospital but to raise crucial gifts for our $60 million capital campaign.

Our campaign efforts also include you, the staff of this great institution.

Internally, we are all highly aware of the opportunity, responsibility, and obligation we have to elevate the health of the region. We are blessed to care for citizens from all over the state, many of whom have problems that only a top academic medical center can solve.

WVU Medicine Children’s plays a big part of this. In 2018, we treated more than 140,000 children across the state nearly 200,000 times, and our doctors performed nearly 9,000 pediatric surgeries.

We also know about the financial realities of operating a large-scale enterprise such as WVU Medicine and how much we depend on generosity to meet challenges and evolve. Once again, we are relying on our friends and alumni, our businesses, the people of West Virginia, and the Mountaineer Nation – wherever they may be – to pitch in to make the new Children’s Hospital a reality.

I encourage each and every one of you to consider joining us in our mission and vision by contributing to the WVU Medicine Children’s Day of Giving.

The theme says it all: Grow hope. Grow healing. Grow WVU Medicine Children’s. We simply cannot grow without your help.

Sincerely

Amy L. Bush-Marone
