Alexander Tylka, PhD, to join Health Sciences Center to support Student Success Initiatives
Alexander Tylka, PhD, will be contributing his expertise to the Health Sciences Center as part of ongoing efforts to enhance student success as the Director of HSC Student Focused Academic Achievement.
This new role will coincide with his responsibilities as an assistant professor of exercise physiology and expand his existing administrative duties. To this point, Dr. Tylka focused on coordinating advising and student success initiatives within the School of Medicine’s undergraduate programs, while developing a research agenda centered on the psychological aspects of academic achievement. With the addition of his new role, he will collaborate with HSC undergraduate student support units, the Office of Academic Affairs in the Chancellor’s Office and the Office of the Provost to assess existing academic support systems and enhance initiatives designed to promote student success and achievement.
Dr. Tylka’s work will focus on:
-
Identifying areas where HSC students are currently benefiting from effective academic support systems.
-
Expanding and aligning these systems to better meet students' evolving needs.
-
Developing strategies to identify and assist students who may require additional academic support.
“The Health Sciences Center has an incredible team of faculty and staff who are dedicated to the success of its students. Dr. Tylka’s role will help consolidate efforts across the five health science schools. This coordinated effort will further strengthen and align support systems - ensuring that all Health Sciences students are equipped with the resources and support necessary to thrive academically” said Dr. Louise Veselicky, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.
