Diabetes Ed Center and Adult Endocrinology will host a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk

The Department of Medicine’s Division of Endocrinology is honored to be supporting this year's JDRF One Walk helping to end Type 1 Diabetes. When you participate in a Community One Walk, the money you raise supports life-changing breakthroughs that give hope to those impacted by T1D.

Emily Smaniotto, BSN, RN, CDCES shared “When I was diagnosed with type one diabetes (T1D) at the age of 9, I felt like I was alone and no one understood my disease. Bringing the JDRF One Walk to Morgantown gives those with T1D in our community a way to connect with others, build relationships, gain resources, and find support; all while having fun! We hope you'll walk with us to help turn Type One into Type None. This past year I was able to showcase JDRF's Bear with Diabetes, Rufus, live on WBOY. In addition to funding research aimed to cure type one diabetes, the money we raise at our JDRF Walk will also help supply newly diagnosed kids with JDRF Resources, such as Rufus!”

Renee Schwertfeger, APRN with the Divison of Endocrinology commented "Working with the diabetes population as a provider has been an eye-opening and humbling experience.  This JDRF One Walk is a different way for me to connect with the diabetes community.  My hope is to make an impact on diabetes research and care through this fun and exciting event."
