Drs. Ang-Rabanes and Kletter named 2022 Eastern Campus Clinicians of the Year

Michael Ang-Rabanes, M.D., and Jan Kletter M.D., have been voted the 2022 Eastern Campus Clinicians of the Year by students on the West Virginia University School of Medicine’s Eastern Campus.

At the conclusion of each academic year, third year medical students on the Eastern Campus vote for the faculty member whom they believe embodies the ideal teaching physician, with all of the attributes of an outstanding educator in a clinical setting. This year, students selected two physicians for this award, with nominations citing both doctors’ passion for teaching and strong desire to develop close relationships with their students.

Dr. Ang-Rabanes originally arrived at WVU in 2009 as a resident in the General Psychiatry Residency Program. Upon completing his residency in 2013, where he served as Chief Resident in his final year, he began the Psychosomatic Medicine Fellowship at WVU. Following his fellowship, Ang-Rabanes spent a few years working in Texas before returning to WVU as an assistant professor in 2016.

Students cited Ang-Rabanes’ enthusiasm, approachability and positive attitude as factors that make him deserving of being named Clinician of the Year. Ang-Rabanes said he is honored to receive this award and thankful he is in a position where he can help medical students grow each day, while he continues to grow as a teaching physician himself.

“I have been privileged to connect with medical students and play a role in their development. Not surprisingly, I too have learned so much from them and have garnered inspiration and renewed vigor as a teacher and clinician. I am honored by this award and grateful to share it with my friend and colleague, Dr. Kletter,” Ang-Rabanes said.

Dr. Kletter came to WVU as an attending surgeon at Jefferson Medical Center in 2001. He joined the teaching faculty at the WVU School of Medicine as an assistant professor in 2004, where he also currently serves as the Clerkship Director of Surgery for the Eastern Campus.

Students said they nominated Kletter for the Clinician of the Year Award for his strong dedication to helping both his students and his patients, and the passion he shows each day for his work. Kletter was also named the Clinician of the Year in 2018 and said he feels honored to once again be given this award.

“I feel humbled to be named an Eastern Campus Clinician of the Year for the second time in my career,” Kletter said. “I am grateful to have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our students and help them on their journey to become the next generation of medical professionals.”
