Eastern Student Services

Hours are Monday – Friday from 8:00am - 5:00pm. Holiday Office Closure: Eastern Campus Student Services will be closed on Monday, December 25 & Monday, January 1, in observance of the Christmas and New Year Holiday. We hope you all enjoy your Holiday!

Sharps Injury reminder for students – Should you experience an actual, possible, or “just not sure” blood or body fluid exposure, report it immediately to OR staff in the room, go to OR Charge Nurse for assistance. You will report to the ER for immediate follow-up. Must address within 2 hrs! When registering, DO NOT GIVE INSURANCE CARD, register as “WVU Student Health Guarantor Account” so it does not get charged to your insurance. Be sure to notify one of the campus Deans or Student Services Staff. The full needlestick policy is in the WVU MD Degree Handbook on SOLE.

Volunteer/Community Service Opportunities: As part of your graduation requirement, you must complete 100 hours of community service.  Please remember to document what you have already completed, and plan to start early on completing any additional hours needed.

Community Meal – Meals are on the 3rd Tuesday of December, 330p-6pm at Charles Town Baptist Church. Contact Dr. Humerick if interested in helping madison.humerick@hsc.wvu.edu

Community Meal - prep and serve for 60-70 people. Food preparation starts around 3:30-4pm and they can use some extra hands; serving begins at 5pm until 5:30pm- cleanup needs to be done and usually gone by 6pm.

HSTA- The Health Sciences and Technology Academy’s vision was founded in 1994 on the faith, resilience, spirit and commitment of individuals, communities, and universities throughout the state. HSTA is a 9th-12th grade STEM enrichment program built in West Virginia, by West Virginians, for West Virginians which encourage aspirations, opens doors, and empowers minority and underrepresented students and communities. Stepping Stones/Good Samaritan Free Clinic – Volunteers needed every Wednesday at 5pm and first Tuesday of each month at 5pm. New location: 601 S. Raleigh Street, Martinsburg.

Important Dates:

Community Donation Drive - C.O.R.E. is WVU Medicine's community outreach team that helps people with substance use disorders, many of whom also experience homelessness. C.O.R.E. holds monthly outreach events that provide essential services and supplies to people in our community that struggle to meet their basic needs. Items that will help our clients are new or used winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves (only accepting clothing donations of what is listed), blankets, sleeping bags, deodorant, toothbrushes & toothpaste, lotion, and non-perishable food items. A Donation Drive is currently be conducted with boxes in BMC cafeteria, JMC and HSC lobbies. Accepting thru 12/14/23

REMINDERS:

1. Please remember to update your case logs in E-Value regularly. All case logs MUST be complete prior to taking the final NBME clerkship exams as part of the course requirement.

2. Make sure you are filing your required number of graded H&P’s for each clerkship in the Eastern Student Services office files that are assigned to you. If you need assistance following up with a preceptor for an H&P, please contact Michelle Alder (alderm@wvumedicine.org).

3. Please remember to return your Textbooks to Student Services when you come to take your exams.

Interviewing Time: It's that time of year for scheduling your Virtual Interviews. Eastern Student Services is offering the PEP rooms here at the HSC to you all for a quiet space for your interviews if you choose.
