Surgical Case Conference “Complicated Diverticulitis” – February 17, 2023 @ 730a-830a. 8th floor classroom & Microsoft Teams. Speaker(s): Dr. Jason Turner, Assistant Professor, WVU Medicine Department of Surgery, Aayushi Agarwal, MSIII and Garrett Riggleman, MSIII. Objectives: 1) Discuss diverticulosis – epidemiology, pathology, etiology, and diet modifications.  2) Review appropriateness for surgery.  3) Review surgical options, risks of surgery and non-operative management.  40 Summarize the role of antibiotics.

OB Journal Club “Racial and Ethnic disparities in surgical care for endometriosis across the United States” - February 20, 2023 @ 7:30 am – 8:30 am on Microsoft Teams. SPEAKERS: Dr. Erin Miller, Brooke Seamans, OMS-III and Devin Towne, OMS-III. Objectives: 1) Recognize race and ethnicity as potential sources of disparity in the surgical decision making of endometriosis. 2) Identify explicit and implicit biases in medicine and understand their potential impact on the objectivity of patient care. 3) Understand factors that contribute to inequalities in complication rates among those undergoing endometriosis surgery.

HSTA- The Health Sciences and Technology Academy’s vision was founded in 1994 on the faith, resilience, spirit and commitment of individuals, communities, and universities throughout the state. HSTA is a 9th-12th grade STEM enrichment program built in West Virginia, by West Virginians, for West Virginians which encourage aspirations, opens doors, and empowers minority and underrepresented students and communities.
